Statement from the Provincial Superior of the Comboni Missionaries in the United Kingdom and Ireland
“The Comboni Missionaries welcome the report by the National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church in Ireland (NBSCCCI) and thank the Board for its work in reviewing Child Safeguarding Practice in our Religious Order in Ireland.
“The Review recognises that the Comboni Missionaries have an extremely small presence in Ireland, consisting of two missionaries only, and that we are fully compliant with the NBSCCCI Child Safeguarding Standards.
“We are in full agreement with the Review’s recommendation and were pleased to sign up to the new Policy and Standards for the Catholic Church in Ireland on 2nd December 2015. We will also be renewing the Memorandum of Understanding with the NBSCCCI this year.
“We condemn unreservedly any action which causes harm or distress to others, and our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by such suffering. We want to reassure everyone concerned that we maintain the highest levels of child safeguarding throughout our Order.”
